For Day 3 of NYCC, we have a great selection of cosplayers from Friday’s Marvel Costoberfest Photo Op on the Marvel Stage! Featuring Young Avengers, Ms. Marvel, Red Skull and Star Lord cosplayers.
NYCC cosplay photos! I wish I’d had it together enough to get anyone’s names! The first Kamala, the Winter Soldier & Kate Bishop were all together & I know Kate at least was at the Brimper get together, so if any of you know them, please let me now so I can credit them.
The little girls were in Artist’s Alley with their moms, and they made me miss my daughter and also want to smish their cheeks.
Then there’s another Kate. There were so many Kates (and Carols and Kamalas!)! It was delightful.
And I happened to be there when tehnakki and @littlemoongoddess ran into each other, with adorable results.
Towards the end of the panel, a fan asked Wilson why she chose to set ‘Ms. Marvel’ in Jersey City (the fan’s hometown). Wilson said she chose it because the city is ‘incredibly diverse’ and a ‘thriving Pakistani-American community’ — plus it’s ‘right across the river from Manhattan,’ which puts Kamala Khan in close proximity to much of Marvel’s superheroes.
‘It made sense for a young, up-and-coming superhero to be in that place,’ Wilson, who was also born in Jersey, said.
Gone but not forgotten, Kamala Korps! I just got back from my motherland aka a trip to the Bangalore Convention, and MAN do they love them some Ms. Marvel!
While I haven’t had much time to post, I promise you it’s because we’ve been busy planning some awesome things in Marvel land. Check out NYCC this weekend for more info.
Here’s is (sana’s) con schedule:
Friday, Oct 8th:
1:15pm Marvel’s 75th Anniversary: World Outside Your Window, Diversity in Marvel Comics
4 pm: Vulture presents: The Future of Female Fandom
Sunday, Oct 10th:
1:15 pm Women of Marvel (with the lovely G. Willow Wilson):
Hm, clearly there’s a trend in topic in all of the above, so YES we will be talking about Ms. Marvel! Hope to see you there with some hard-hitting questions!
And here of course is a taste of issue 9, on sale 10/15!
A few weeks ago, we announced that Ms. Marvel #1 is getting its SIXTH PRINTING. Wowza. If you aren’t already aware, that’s pretty historic. Simultaneously, issue 2 is getting a 4th printing and issues 4 and 5 are getting their 2nd printing. We’re elated, not only because it seems like we’re selling out, but because people are walking into their COMIC SHOPS to buy what is sure to be a collectible series. And for that, we thank you.
Issue 7 is on sale 8/20. Adrian Alphona returns with issue 8 (sneak peeks to come.)
Kamala: We bumped into each other on patrol one night and it turned out we went to the same kindergarten! We started talking and we’ve been friends for a few months! I haven’t met many heros besides Spidey and Wolverine yet, but Peter tells me a lot about the Avengers. It’s really cool I’ve met a superhero nerd like me! We talk sometimes during breaks on patrols and as soon as we can find a reason to say we know each other, we’re gonna ask our parents for a playdate or something!
